Assessing Panamanian hospitals' performance with alternative frontier methods

چکیده

Abstract In the last decades, there has been a growing interest in measuring efficiency of hospitals using different methodological approaches, mainly represented by data envelopment analysis (DEA) and stochastic frontier (SFA). this study, we estimate measures performance for sample Panamanian public over an 11‐year period (2005–2015) both traditional methods (DEA SFA) compare them with efficiencies estimated alternative approach, so‐called StoNED (stochastic semi‐nonparametric data), which combines virtues those unified framework. One most interesting features health system Panama is that it segmented, as are operating under two parallel management schemes (the Ministry Health Social Security Fund), thus our empirical will also focus on exploring differences between each regime. Our results show certain divergences scores methodologies, but all possible to detect experienced clear decrease their levels throughout evaluated, being much higher belonging Fund.

Meta-evaluation: Assessing Alternative Methods of Performance Evaluation and Audits of Planned and Implemented Marketing Strategies

Ameta-evaluation is an assessment of evaluation practices.Meta-evaluations include assessments of validity and usefulness of two or more studies that focus on the same issues. Every performance audit is grounded explicitly or implicitly in one or more theories of program evaluation. A deep understanding of alternative theories of program evaluation is helpful to gain clarity about sound auditin...

The Efficiency Frontier of For-Profit Hospitals

This study evaluates the efficiency of small and large for-profit hospitals using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). For this study, small for-profit hospitals are 35 beds or less which is consistent with the Federal designation of critical access hospitals (CAH). Large for-profit hospitals are 36 beds and greater. Results indicate overall efficiency in small for-profit hospitals was 60% in 2013....

Alternative methods for modeling fatigue and performance.

The use of nonparametric approaches and semiparametric approaches for modeling fatigue and performance are analyzed. Nonparametric approaches in the form of stand-alone artificial neural networks and semiparametric (hybrid) approaches that combine neural networks with prior process knowledge are explored and compared with existing parametric approaches based on the two-process model of sleep re...

Methods for Assessing Dynamic Performance of Shovels

Equipment specifications tend to quote highest achievable performance; but this specification does not tell the whole story of machine behaviour. In the case of shovels, many criteria are used for selecting new equipment, generally related to capital and operating cost, capacity, digging forces, reach, loading rate, and propel rate. Some are competing objectives, such as high loading capacity a...

Managerial performance and cost efficiency of Japanese local public hospitals: a latent class stochastic frontier model.

The paper explores the link between managerial performance and cost efficiency of 617 Japanese general local public hospitals in 1999-2007. Treating managerial performance as unobservable heterogeneity, the paper employs a panel data stochastic cost frontier model with latent classes. Financial parameters associated with better managerial performance are found to be positively significant in ex...
